Ostracon Ancient Art, Roman Rim Fragment with Berry Bush, North Africa, AD
Editors: Elizabeth Fentress and Hassan Limane. The most-visited archaeological site in Morocco, Volubilis has long been known for its spectacular mosaics. Instead, this book deals with what happened to the town after the Roman administration was withdrawn at the end of the third century. The town revived in the sixth century with new occupants, the Berber Awraba tribe.
In the eighth century, it became the headquarters of the man who united most of Morocco at the head of the Awraba, Idris I, a descendant of the prophet Mohammed. Editors: Luke Lavan and Michael Mulryan. Archaeologists working on late antique sites have not spent enough time thinking about methodology.

While the image of a demolished pottery industry is tragic, the consequent conglomeration of fine-wares from many parts of the Roman empire in one city makes the Athenian Agora a tremendous source of comparanda for archaeologists working all round the Mediterranean. Written by the world's leading expert on Roman pottery, this huge catalogue illustrating and identifying multiple shapes and types of decoration will therefore be an essential reference book.
